Personnel airlock
Secure infeed and outfeed
The personnel airlock serves as an indispensable barrier for controlled access to the cleanroom. It can be installed either upstream or within the cleanroom complex and ensures that employees enter and leave the cleanroom in compliance with all cleanliness requirements.
As people are the biggest potential source of contamination in the cleanroom, an appropriately dimensioned and equipped airlock is essential. In addition to contamination control, it also plays an important role in maintaining stable pressure conditions. For this reason, the doors of the personnel airlock are always electromagnetically interlocked - only one door can be open at a time. Traffic light systems on the door frames (red/green) indicate the current door status and thus support the safe flow of people.
Equipment and function
The size and equipment requirements depend on the cleanroom class, the number of employees and the specified clothing concept.
A central element is the so-called shoe changing bench (sitover). It is usually placed in the middle of the room and marks the dividing line between areas with different levels of cleanliness (e.g. gray and white areas). It allows shoes to be changed hygienically or overshoes to be put on while seated.
Other furnishings such as checkrooms, dispenser systems for disposable items, waste disposal systems and storage cabinets for cleanroom clothing and consumables are also used.
